Affordable Green & ECO Gadgets
Generally speaking, environmentally conscious consumers are not ordinarily those who will spend their money on gadgets. However, this trend has been reversed during the last couple of years, as gadgetry has aimed to focus on eco-friendly solutions to everyday problems. Whilst not all of these gadgets represent a totally viable alternative to standard, less environmentally friendly solutions, they nonetheless represent the forward-thinking technological developments that will one day help to `save the planet`. Indeed, when such an enormous task is taken on, it is often better to start with the small things.
In this respect, there are not many smaller eco-friendly devices around than the Dyson Energy Bracelet, which has nothing to do with improving your capacity to use a vacuum cleaner! In fact, the Dyson Energy Bracelet is a cool little gadget that uses thermoelectric energy to charge up a mobile phone battery. Worn in the same way as any other bracelet (for the wrist), the Dyson Energy Bracelet uses a Peltier element to convert the temperature difference between the surface of the skin and the ambient air to generate an electrical current. This current is stored in a battery that comprises part of the bracelet`s wrist strap. If you happen to have been wearing one of these bracelets whilst talking on your mobile, which subsequently goes dead because you forgot to charge it the previous night, you can simply plug the mobile phone into the wrist strap battery for a little extra talk time - enough, perhaps, to make an emergency call or end the conversation on your terms! Furthermore, the Dyson Energy Bracelet will not only charge mobile phones, it will power up almost any mobile device that has a micro-USB port.
Another interesting eco-friendly gadget that has recently entered the markets is the Samsung Crest E1107, which comprises a solar panel on the back face plate. Although this item is aimed more at Asian and South American markets, the product will also be available in Europe. Featuring standard mobile phone functionality such as an FM radio and built-in games, the Samsung Crest E1107 offers up to ten minutes talk time for every one hour of solar charging. Whilst phones are typically left in pockets for much of the day, exposing the solar panel to direct sunlight is all it takes to charge up the device. Environmentalists will be encouraged by the direction that Samsung has taken with this device, as more than anything else it offers great scope for future solar powered mobile phones.
The Maingear Pulse gaming PC is another eco-friendly gadget - if it can be appropriately described as such - that performs everyday tasks in a way that is better for the environment. Comprising seriously powerful gaming hardware such as the NVIDIA ION-based GeForce 9300 Motherboard (dual/quad core), special edition GeForce 9800 GT graphics card and up to 8GB DDR2 RAM in addition to other high-spec optional extras, the Maingear Pulse is specially built in order to consume significantly less electricity. In fact, the machine is reported to require around 40% less power than a conventional power-hungry gaming system. Furthermore, its chassis is designed for maximum ventilation, which means extra power does not need to be spent on keeping hot components at a sufficiently cool operating temperature.
In summary, there are plenty of environmentally friendly gadgets available on the market for those who care about the planet. Generally speaking, an eco-friendly gadget will aim to perform the same job as its traditional substitute in a way that will save the consumer money whilst being kind on mother nature.
